A member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Bećirović, responded to the baseless views of the President of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s entity of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, on harmonizing the positions with the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, regarding the participation of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the EU-Western Balkans Summit on December 6 in Tirana.
Bećirović pointed out that Bosnia and Herzegovina is an independent, sovereign state and a full member of the United Nations, and that representatives of lower administrative-territorial units in the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina do not have any authority in conducting the foreign policy of the state.
He also stated that the neighboring countries cannot and will never be able to decide on the foreign policy of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
These matters are decided by the competent authorities of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, stated the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Milorad Dodik’s unfounded views and unauthorized interference in issues that are not within his competence have no legal force. Any harmonization of views between the president of the BiH entity and the president of Serbia has no impact on the decision of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Mr. Dodik and the RS entity have not even been invited to participate in this summit in any format, so it is pointless to even mention the entity’s views in the context of participation in the summit in Tirana,” stated Bećirović.
He reminded that the BiH Presidency made a decision, by which it accepted the invitation to participate in the EU-Western Balkans Summit, and agreed on who should represent Bosnia and Herzegovina.
