Canadian photographer Denis McCready shared an intriguing request on Facebook. Specifically, he is looking for people featured in a photo he took in 1996 in Sarajevo and is asking anyone who recognizes them to come forward and assist him.
Namely, McCready is working on a project titled “First Spring – Sarajevo 1996”, within which he is searching for the man in the photo from that year, which he also posted on Facebook.
“As we enter the final week of the project ‘First Spring – Sarajevo 1996’ at the Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), I’ve gathered many stories inspired by this photograph, and the man in the denim jacket holding a piece of paper has, in a way, become a hero,” McCready explained.
He then issued a request:
“Please help me find him. And the woman on the left, as well as the shepherd on the right, if you recognize any of them.”
In the spring of 1996, McCready photographed Sarajevo’s first peaceful spring following four years of siege. However, these photos were never previously exhibited in the city.
His request was also shared on the Sniper Alley Facebook page.
On his website, McCready explained that, in collaboration with the Historical Museum of BiH, he is working on the “First Spring – Sarajevo 1996” project and invited citizens to contribute to the creation of collective memory by sharing their stories inspired by these photographs.
