The Embassy of Sweden in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in cooperation with partners from the Institute for Youth Development KULT and with the support of the Government and the Assembly of the Brčko District, is organizing the event ‘Welcome to Electionville’ (‘Welcome to the City of Elections’) in the Brčko Youth Center today with the aim of pointing out the importance of the participation of young people who are voting for the first time in the upcoming elections.
What is local government? What does the democratic process really do and who does it serve? These are just some of the questions that the young participants of the Welcome to Electionville program will explore and discuss. Electionville is a fictional city presented through an educational floor game in which participants take on the challenging roles of city council members. Fun and interactive, the main goal of the Electionville tool is to educate young people about democratic processes and provide insight into how democracy works in practice.
The activity is intended for young people aged 15 to 24 and is a tool for promotion and practical understanding of key democratic values such as inclusiveness, participation and gender equality.
After the game, a discussion will be organized with councilors about experiences and lessons learned (#DemocracyTalks).
The project aims to improve democratic literacy and civic engagement of young people. It also promotes civic participation and responsibility, and encourages participants to participate constructively in decision-making processes, the organizers said.
