High Representative Christian Schmidt welcomed the appointment of Manuel Sarrazin as Special Envoy of the Federal Government for Germany’s relations with the Western Balkans countries.

HR Schmidt emphasized that the newly created position will enhance Germany’s support to the Western Balkans countries, including very much Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the ongoing reform processes, despite the current challenging circumstances.

“The appointment of a Special Envoy affirms the commitment of Germany to the Western Balkans region. I have known Manuel Sarrazin since we were in the Bundestag together and have seen his strong commitment to advancing the region’s future. I look forward to a close cooperation with him”, HR Schmidt said, thanking German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock for this initiative.
