Israeli warplanes carried out airstrikes late on Saturday in southern and eastern Lebanon, overflying the capital Beirut and its suburbs, in fresh violations of the ceasefire agreement.

The warplanes attacked the eastern mountain range bordering the Bekaa Valley, Lebanon’s official National News Agency (NNA) reported.

Israel also carried out two airstrikes in the Nabatieh district in southern Lebanon, targeting a valley between the towns of Baruch and Azza.

There were no immediate reports of targets or casualties.

Witnesses said Israeli warplanes were seen flying intensively over Beirut, its suburbs and central Lebanon.

The fragile ceasefire has been in place since November 27, ending a period of mutual shelling between Israel and the Hezbollah group that began on October 8, 2023, and escalated into a full-scale conflict on September 23 of last year.

Since the ceasefire came into effect, Israel has committed over 670 violations, killing and injuring dozens of people in Lebanon, including women and children.

Israel was supposed to complete its withdrawal from southern Lebanon by January 26 under the ceasefire agreement, but it refused and the deadline was extended to February 18.
