Sarajevo City Day to be Celebrated with Special Film Screenings

Sarajevo, the UNESCO City of Film, and the City of Sarajevo, on the occasion of Sarajevo City Day, April 6, are offering the audience free admission to film screenings, which will be held in the Meeting Point cinema and Kvartovski cinema Grbavica.

The audience will have the opportunity to watch the films “Kiss the Future” and “Staza”. Both films bring stories about Sarajevo, from its wartime past to the dreams of new generations.

On Monday, April 6, the movie “Kiss the future” by Nenad Čičin-Šain, the opening film of the 29th Sarajevo Film Festival, will be shown at the Meeting Point cinema in Sarajevo, which was voted by the audience as the best documentary of the 2023 Sarajevo Film Festival.

On the same day, the film “Staza” by Ryan Sidhoo will be shown in Kvartovski cinema Grbavica.

“Kiss the Future” tells the story of Sarajevo’s resistance during the siege in the 1990s. Through the testimonies of local residents, musicians, activists and artists, the film follows how music and art became a tool of struggle and a means of global solidarity. The central moment of the film is the post-war concert of the U2 group held in Sarajevo in 1997, an event that symbolized the victory of hope over nationalism,” announced the Press Service of Sarajevo City of Film.

“Staza” is a modern coming-of-age story that follows three teenagers – Mirza, Zlatan and Hamza – as they strive to achieve their Olympic dream in post-war Bosnia and Herzegovina. As they train on their war-damaged bobsleigh track, a relic of the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympics, they are guided by their tenacious coach Senad. His unwavering commitment to rebuilding neglected trails is a reflection of his struggle to provide the boys with a future in a country with one of the highest youth unemployment rates in the world.

Free tickets can be picked up at the Meeting Point cinema and Kvartovski cinema Grbavica one hour before the start of the screening.
