Many facilities were flooded yesterday in the Sarajevo settlement of Rajlovac, and rescuers evacuated employees and other citizens who found themselves in those facilities by boat.
The information that company Messer is among one of the flooded facilities, which is the only licensed producer and supplier of medical oxygen in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), is worrying.
To recall, the consumption of medical oxygen has increased recently due to the coronavirus pandemic, more precisely due to the fact that many patients need breathing support.
It was found out that the medical institutions have already contacted the company asking about the damage suffered.
Director of the company Messer, Avdo Dedic, pointed out that all equipment was flooded, including pumps and motors, but that the workers were safe.
Further, he added that they do not have a defense system and that “everything is in God’s hands”.
Speaking about the supply of medical oxygen, he noted that hospitals with a central power supply will be in a somewhat more favorable position, ie that they will be able to be supplied with oxygen “if there are no logistical disturbances”.
“As for delivery in bottles, our bottling plant is completely flooded. We are looking for locations that could meet our requirements. We will write a letter to give us a temporary permit to fill bottles at two locations in Zenica and Mostar, until we return our bottling plant to the normal state, “ Dedic mentioned.
Besides Messer, the buildings of companies Robot, Hercegovinalijek, and many others were flooded. The workers were evacuated to safety with the help of Federal Administration of Civil Protection (FUCZ) members.
