1.84 Million working-age Population active in BiH

In the third quarter of 2025, there were 1,847,000 working-age people in the FBiH, of whom 946,000 were economically active or 51.2 percent, and 901,000 people were outside the labor force or 48.8 percent.

Of the total working-age population, 825,000 were employed or 44.7 percent, and 121,000 were unemployed or 6.5 percent.

The number of employed people increased by 5.7 percent compared to the second quarter of 2025, and the number of unemployed people decreased by 8.8 percent, according to the results of the Labor Force Survey for the third quarter of 2025 published by the Federal Institute of Statistics.

Compared to the third quarter of 2024, the number of employed people increased by 3.3 percent and the number of unemployed people decreased by 6.2 percent.

The total number of active population increased by 3.6 percent compared to the second quarter of 2025. Compared to the third quarter of 2024, the number of active population increased by 2.0 percent.

The employment rate in the third quarter of 2025 increased by 2.4 percentage points compared to the second quarter of 2025, while compared to the third quarter of 2024 it increased by 1.4 percentage points.

The unemployment rate in the third quarter of 2025 decreased by 1.7 percentage points compared to the second quarter of 2025, while compared to the third quarter of 2024 it decreased by 1.1 percentage points.

In the structure of the active population, 570,000 are men or 60.2 percent, and 376,000 are women or 39.8 percent. In the structure of employed persons, 513,000 or 62.2 percent are men, while 312,000 or 37.8 percent are women. Of the total number of unemployed persons, 56,000 or 46.5 percent are men, and 65,000 or 53.5 percent are women

In the third quarter of 2025, the activity rate was 51.2 percent, the employment rate was 44.7 percent, and the unemployment rate was 12.8 percent. Observed by gender, there are almost twice as many active men as active women. The activity rate of men was 63.2 percent, while the activity rate of women was 39.8 percent. The same applies to the employment rate, which was 57.0 percent for men and 32.9 percent for women. The unemployment rate for men was 9.9 percent, and for women 17.2 percent.
