By installing around 150 cameras at different locations in Sarajevo, in the next two years, the Sarajevo police will get to criminals and traffic violators faster. The time of finding, identification and arrest will be shortened.
Four years ago, all entrances and exits in Sarajevo were covered by video surveillance, since then additional surveillance cameras have been installed in Canton Sarajevo. Over one million marks was approved for the purchase of new analytical cameras.
“We are installing analytical cameras and we plan for it to be a significant figure. About 150 analytical cameras, in the places where our experts foresee it. It is certainly one of the main priorities in our work. Also, it is closely connected with the construction project of the new building of the Ministry of Interior of the Canton Sarajevo,” points out Admir Katica, Minister of Internal Affairs of the CS.
The project to build a new building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of CS includes the creation of a modern Operations Center, which should be completed in the next two to three years and will mean a comprehensive approach to the problem of crime in the area of CS, says Katica.
Security expert Dizdarević emphasizes that it is important to work strategically and that all cameras are connected to one Operations Center.
“Although, of course, when we talk about identification through video surveillance, it is always debatable in a procedural sense, but of course modern criminalistics, especially syllogistic criminalistics, invents methods for determining identity in this regard.” says Sandi Dizdarević, criminologist and security expert.
“Those softwares, experts in this field might better say, certainly offer basic information to criminal officers about people on the move. We will see how much we can use the advanced system, in that sense I would really let the experts answer that question, but my request is that it be a modern system.” emphasizes the Minister of Internal Affairs of the CS.
While waiting for a modern system in the BiH capital, Banjaluka is covered with almost twice as many cameras. The strengthening of video surveillance began with the mysterious murder of twenty-one-year-old David Dragičević. The judiciary has not yet resolved this case, potential arrests are being announced in the coming days, N1 reports.
