The Organizing Committee for marking the 30th anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks of the “United Nations (UN) Safe Area” Srebrenica yesterday, at the final meeting in Sarajevo, concluded that preparations for marking this anniversary have been successfully completed.
The president of the committee, Hamdija Fejzic, stated that the 30th anniversary of the genocide will be marked in a way worthy of the victims and to show that they are not forgotten.
He added that the number of five victims to be buried this year remains, but that number could be higher if other families of victims agree.
Fejzic appealed to everyone who will attend the commemoration to behave in accordance with the code of conduct and to be appropriately dressed for the occasion.
He thanked the Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH), Nermin Niksic, and his ministers for attending the meeting and providing the premises of the FBiH Government for holding the meeting of the Organizing Committee.
The president of the Association “Movement of Mothers of Srebrenica and Zepa Enclaves,” Munira Subasic, emphasized that they have prepared about 40 activities in BiH and abroad to mark the 30th anniversary of the genocide, some of which have already begun.
She asked family members who have identified the remains of victims to bury them even though these are very small remains because there are many more than the five who have agreed to burial this year.
Subasic expressed the expectation that more than 150.000 people will attend the commemoration of the anniversary of the genocide this year and asked that attendees, if possible, be dressed in white.
