Agriculture is one of the most important economic sectors in the area of Una-Sana Canton. This region of BiH see great perspective for this area, primarily because of the high percentage of arable agricultural land, as well as its quality.

There is over 195,000 hectares of arable land in the area of Una-Sana Canton, a little more than 80 % of that is in private ownership.

Agricultural production in 2015 recorded growth in almost all aspects, such as the production of raspberries, cucumbers, milk, etc. For example, according to some projections in 2015, about 1,600 tons of raspberries were supposed to be purchased, however, more than 1,900 tons was actually purchased. That means that the production was 300 tons higher than planned.

When it comes to increasing the volume of production, as well as the possibility of investment in the agricultural sector in this part of BiH, Dragan Polimanac, the Minister of Agriculture, Water and Forestry of USC, emphasized that there are interested parties that are willing to cooperate and invest in the area of USC.

“Turkey, for example, is more and more present in our region. They are interested in our agricultural facilities, especially when it comes to meat, vegetable, and even the milk industry. Turkey wants to buy agricultural products from countries with which they cooperate, and that should be used, since their market is really huge. They want the whole range of products that our canton has and we have to hurry up, “said the Minister.

Polimanac noted that, if they do not find an agreement with the Turks on time, this year or next year, they would find a new partner soon, which will be able to meet their requirements and needs.

“It is pure economy and the law of the market”, concluded Polimanac.
