In Sokolac and Pale, the 29th anniversary of the emigration of Sarajevo’s Serbs was marked following the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement.
A memorial service for the fallen was held in Sokolac, while a spiritual academy took place at the Cultural and Sports Center in Pale.
The commemoration is organized by the Committee of the Government of Republika Srpska (RS) for Nurturing the Tradition of Liberation Wars. According to the Committee’s data, 120.000 Serbs emigrated from Sarajevo.
Sarajevo’s Serbs left their homes 29 years ago in the Sarajevo neighborhoods of Ilidza, Ilijas, Hadzici, Grbavica, Vraca, Rajlovac, and Vogosca.
The emigration represents a series of events that followed the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement when five municipalities of what was then Serb Sarajevo were entirely assigned to the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH), while the other five were divided between RS and the FBiH.
