General elections will be held in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) on October 2nd, 2022, and research conducted by UNICEF has provided interesting answers about how young people in our country think about this event.
Namely, according to the results of the survey by UNICEF’s platform for supporting social activism of young people U-Report BiH, 83 percent of young people plan to vote on October 2nd, while only 14 percent of respondents have no intention of appearing at the polls, and only three percent of young people declared that they have not yet decided whether they will vote for one of the political options or offered candidates.
It is interesting that when asked which categories are being elected in general elections, as many as 11 percent of young people answered that voters vote for new chiefs and mayors. However, the largest number of them, 88 percent, said that members of the Presidency of BiH, representatives in the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH (PABiH), as well as representatives of entity parliaments, Federation of BiH (FBiH) and Republika Srpska (RS), or cantonal assemblies, will be elected in the upcoming elections.
When it comes to how much young people follow the election campaign, it is interesting that even 50 percent of young people chose the answer “as much as I see on posters and in paid media content”. According to the results of the same survey, 21 percent of young people said that they actively follow messages and analyze pre-election programs of parties, while 29 percent of young people do not follow pre-election campaigns at all.
Only 16% of the surveyed young people believe that young people and youth issues are adequately and sufficiently represented in election campaigns, while 50 percent of young people believe that their voice can influence changes in society, Buka writes.
