“A Decade of EU Support for Employment in BiH” Conference Today in Sarajevo

A two-day conference titled “Ten years of local partnerships for employment in Bosnia and Herzegovina – Innovations leading to systemic impact” begins today in Sarajevo, where the results of ten years of European Union support for local partnerships for employment throughout BiH will be presented.

Thanks to this approach, 45 partnerships have been supported since 2016, and only through the second phase of the project, more than 800 people have been employed since 2021, of which more than 300 have started their own businesses.

The focus of the event is the marking of ten years of continuous support of the European Union to the programs of local partnerships for employment, which have contributed to the creation of new opportunities for work throughout BiH, and will bring together representatives of institutions and organizations involved in local partnerships for employment supported through the LEP II project (2021-2026).

A special program has been prepared that will bring the concrete results and long-term significance of this approach to the labor market closer through authentic user stories, a photo exhibition and interviews with experts.

In the opening part of the conference, Karel Lizerot, head of the Operations Section for Justice, Internal Affairs and Public Administration of the Delegation of the European Union in Bosnia and Herzegovina, will address the media.

Key representatives of institutions and organizations that are actively involved in the implementation of the employment program will also speak at the conference – Ivan Barbalić, general director of the BiH Labor and Employment Agency, Helena Lončar, director of the Federal Employment Agency, Luka Glibo, assistant director of the Employment Agency of the Republic of Srpska, Tamara Duvnjak Mitrović, director of the Employment Agency of the Brčko District of BiH, and Daniela Zampini and Amra Selesković from the International Labor Organization in BiH.

Also, journalists will have the opportunity to talk to program beneficiaries, people who, thanks to the support of local partnerships, have started their own businesses, developed new services and products, or acquired key skills for entering the labor market.

A special segment of the event will be an exhibition of photos and products, which will show the “human side of statistics”, concrete stories and results achieved in local communities across the country.

All these activities will highlight the human dimension of interventions in the field of employment and contribute to a broader understanding of the issue of inclusion in the labor market, skills development and challenges related to dignified work in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The conference will be held in the European House of Culture and National Minorities in Sarajevo.
