The Minister of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zukan Helez, signed today a Letter of Intent and a Plan for Bilateral Military Cooperation with the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Lieutenant General Zakir Hasanov.

Namely, a delegation of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan, led by Hasanov, officially visited the Ministry of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina today. The Azerbaijani delegation was hosted by Helez with his deputies Slaven Galić and Aleksandar Goganović.

In his address to the media, Helez emphasized that after signing the Letter of Intent on Bilateral Cooperation, he discussed several topics with Hasanov.

“I have said on several occasions that my goal is to expand bilateral cooperation with other countries, in addition to the European Union and the USA. We will sign a plan for bilateral cooperation for the coming year and prepare everything for a memorandum of understanding and an agreement that will regulate relations between the two countries,” said Helez.

He added that the special-purpose industry was also discussed, and that some segments of the special-purpose industry of Bosnia and Herzegovina are missing in production in the Republic of Azerbaijan, which is why they are very interested in cooperation.

“They are particularly interested in the products Pretis, Igman and Ginex. Today we will visit the Igman company in Konjic and I hope that new agreements will be signed, which will be good for BiH, and which imply the creation of new jobs and, of course, exports to the Republic of Azerbaijan,”  he explained.

Helez adds that demining was also discussed, because both countries have had conflicts and wars in the past, BiH about thirty years ago, and Azerbaijan recently.

“Both territories have a certain area that is still under mines. We have a modernly equipped demining battalion that can respond to any international challenge and in the coming period I hope for joint operations of deminers and armed forces of the two countries,” said Helez and added that Azerbaijan and Bosnia and Herzegovina are friendly countries with no open issues.

Hasanov emphasized that projects with Bosnia and Herzegovina are of great importance for the Republic of Azerbaijan and that they, for their part, want to expand cooperation with BiH as much as possible.

“We will use the experience of both ministries of defense to continue cooperation in the military field and in other areas. We have also made progress according to NATO standards, and we will present the experience that Azerbaijan has gained over the years. We have a lot of room for cooperation and we will use the opportunities that lie ahead of us,” said Hasanov, Federalna writes.
