While Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) is still searching for the remains of more than 7,500 victims of the war in the 1990s, a doctor from Brcko in the northeast of the country, by his own admission, hid the buried bones of one of the victims in his yard.
The remains were buried 11 years ago in the yard of Brckoorthopedist Nebojsa Mraovic, after which he built a concrete fountain above them.
The exhumation of the bones was carried out on September 21stunder the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, according to the order of the Court of BiH, and the witness who revealed the location of the buried remains claims that it is a victim of the genocide in Srebrenica from 1995.
Mraovic, as he told, does not see anything controversial in the whole case, stating that the bones were used for “planning operations”.
It is about the incomplete remains of a person and, as they told from the Institute for the Missing in BiH, the first case of intentionally hiding the remains of a victim of the war in BiH in one’s own yard.
According to the Institute’s information, Mraovic is not in BiH.
The BiH Prosecutor’s Office is conducting an investigation
In a short telephone conversation, Mraovic said, when asked if he had a lawyer, that he had “nothing to defend against, those rumours”.
The State Prosecutor’s Office told that the investigation is ongoing, that they and SIPA (State Agency for Investigation and Protection) are conducting the necessary activities, and that they cannot provide additional information in the interest of the case, Slobodna Evropa reports.
