The German military frigate Hessen, part of the European Union (EU) mission to protect commercial ships in the Red Sea, successfully prevented an attack on a cargo ship, reports Anadolu news agency.

A frigate operating as part of the EU military mission “Aspides” foiled an attack on a civilian cargo ship in the Red Sea, the German Bundeswehr announced on the X social network.

The frigate continued its mission, the statement said, noting that it had successfully destroyed the approaching missile.

Hessen, along with a contingent of 250 soldiers, has been stationed in the region since late February.

The “Aspides” mission is dedicated to protecting the navigation routes of commercial ships crossing the Red Sea.
