A mass grave has been discovered in the courtyard of Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, where the Israeli army killed hundreds of Palestinians over two weeks and turned it into rubble.
“The first mass grave at Shifa Hospital was discovered after 10 bodies were found buried in the hospital’s courtyard. Some of the bodies found were decomposed, some consisted of body parts, and some belonged to women,” said Mutasim Salah, a member of the Emergency Committee of the Ministry of Health in Gaza, in a video released by the Ministry.
Salah emphasized that the bodies would be buried after the completion of identification and legal procedures.
Health sources also stated that dozens of decomposed, burned, dismembered, mass-buried, or individually buried bodies were found in different parts of the hospital’s courtyard, and that they continue to search in and around the hospital’s premises, with the exact number of buried bodies yet to be determined.
A statement by Hamas notes that the Israeli “heinous practice, which it continues to use with shameful international silence” regarding the mass grave at Shifa Hospital, knows no bounds.
It is emphasized that the situation at Shifa Hospital and its surroundings, especially the destruction and killing of Palestinians, constitutes a war crime according to international institutions.
“International institutions are expected to operationalize their roles by immediately calling for accountability of the leaders of this perverse entity (Israel),” it was emphasized.
Mahmud Basal, a spokesperson for the Civil Defense Unit, announced on April 9th that, after the withdrawal of the Israeli army, 409 bodies were found from the southern city of Khan Younis and Shifa Hospital in Gaza and its surroundings, and that the search continues.
