A new report by Boston Consulting Group, The Network, and The Stepstone Group, based on a survey of over 150.000 respondents from 188 countries, reveals changes in workplace priorities and preferences.
In Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), 55 percent of workers are prepared to reskill in any case due to the future impact of artificial intelligence on the labor market and workforce, according to this year’s Boston Consulting Group labor market survey titled “Changing Workforce Preferences in the Age of AI.” This is two percentage points below the global average of 57 percent ready to reskill in any case. If necessary, another 38 percent are ready to reskill, while eight percent are not willing to reskill at all. Interestingly, nearly half of the workers believe that GenAI will transform their jobs, implying a need for significant reskilling.
Specialized programs needed in BiH
Workers in technologically intensive sectors, such as IT and digitalization, show a particularly high readiness for reskilling, as do workers in research, transport, and logistics. On the other hand, workers in more traditional industries also recognize the need to acquire new skills relevant to the modern labor market.
Although the readiness for reskilling is high, workers in BiH also emphasize the need for better access to educational programs and resources. This includes access to training, workshops, and courses relevant to skill upgrading. They also expect employers and the government to provide support in the reskilling process, whether through financial assistance, flexible working hours, or the development of specific programs targeting workforce reskilling.
Generational Interests
As for what is important to workers in BiH today in the workplace, the differences are most visible in different age groups:
Under 20 and 21-30 years old
Job security and financial compensation are very important for young workers. This group seeks career stability with good earnings to support their growing financial needs.
Opportunities for career development and education are also crucial due to their desire for advancement and professional improvement.
31-40 years old and 41-50 years old
A good work-life balance becomes increasingly important as workers enter middle age. This group values flexibility that allows more time for family and personal activities.
“Regarding workers in BiH, we recognize their skepticism in the constant race to remain competitive in the labor market and concerns about the impact of new technologies, primarily generative artificial intelligence on today’s jobs. However, BiH is actively following global trends in adopting GenAI technology in typical industries—such as IT, research and development, and financial services,” commented Natasa Biscan Filipovic from Boston Consulting Group, Forbes writes.
