A strong Earthquake of 6.5 Magnitude hit Indonesia

A powerful earthquake, measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale, has struck the southeastern city of Abepura in Indonesia, the US Geological Survey said.

The quake struck in Papua province at 7:48 a.m. Central European Time (CET) on Sunday, with a depth of 33 kilometers (20 miles).

However, Indonesia’s geophysics agency BMKG put the magnitude of the quake at 6.8.

There were no immediate reports of damage in the city, which is home to more than 60,000 people.
