The young Swiss cyclist Miriel Fuhrer died today after having a serious fall during the Junior World Championships in Zurich the day before.
The International Cycling Union said 18-year-old Miriel Fuhrer was rushed to hospital yesterday with a serious head injury and was in a “very critical” condition.
“Mirielle Fuhrer died today at the University Hospital in Zurich,” the statement said, adding that an investigation was opened because it took time to find the injured athlete.
The exact location of the accident has not been specified, but the local media reports that she fell on a path in a forest near a lake in Zurich and that it was raining.
