The President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, referred to the possibilities of managing Gaza after the war and said that this option can only be considered as part of a broader political solution.
Among other things, Abbas said that the Palestinian Authority is ready to take over the management of Gaza.
“The Palestinian Authority is ready to take responsibility in the Gaza Strip as part of a comprehensive political solution for the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza,” Abbas said.
Abbas spoke about such a solution five days ago after a meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, with whom he also discussed the future of Gaza.
The militant organization Hamas took over the management of Gaza in 2006, and since then the Palestinian Authority has had almost no authority in this area.
After the latest escalation, Israeli and other officials stated that Hamas cannot continue to govern Gaza and that a different security solution needs to be found in that area, Klix.ba reports.
