About 5.9 Million Children in Nigeria face a food and malnutrition Crisis

The United Nations (UN) has announced that 5.9 million children in northeastern Nigeria are facing a serious food and malnutrition crisis.

In Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, the UN organized an event called “Plan for Food Security in the Dry Season 2024”.

The UN humanitarian aid coordinator for Nigeria and resident coordinator Mohamed Fal, in his speech at the opening of the program, said that the federal states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe in the north-east of the country have been negatively affected by terrorist incidents.

Fall said 5.9 million children in these states face a serious food and malnutrition crisis, the highest number in the world.

“Also, around 700,000 children under the age of five are malnourished in the federal states of Adamawa, Borno and Jobe,” he pointed out.

Fall noted that the implementation of this year’s project requires a fund of $306 million, intended for 2.8 million people, to prevent the country’s food and malnutrition crisis from turning into a disaster, AA writes.
