About 6,000 people were evacuated after a dam burst on Dongting Lake in central China.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations of China has sent more than 800 people, 150 vehicles and dozens of boats to the Hunan province to help with the rescue operation, reported the Xinhua agency.

For now, there is no information about possible victims of the flood that occurred on the afternoon of July 5.

Water from the lake spilled onto houses and agricultural land in a nearby village.

The Chinese authorities announced that the remediation of the consequences and the repair of the damaged buildings are underway.
