Above Expectations: U.S. Economy Generated 139.000 Jobs In May

The United States (U.S.) economy generated 139.000 jobs in May, which is more than market expectations, according to data from the Department of Labor released on Friday.

“Employment continued to grow in health care, hospitality and entertainment, and social assistance. The federal government continued to lose jobs,” the department stated.

The unemployment rate, meanwhile, remained stable in May at 4.2 percent, which matches the estimates.

The number of unemployed in May was nearly unchanged at 7.2 million, while the labor force participation rate fell by 0.2 percentage points to 62.4 percent.

Meanwhile, the employment-to-population ratio fell by 0.3 percentage points to 59.7 percent in May, according to data from the Department of Labor.

The average hourly earnings for all employees rose by 0.4 percent to 36.24 dollars in May compared to April, while on an annual level, it increased by 3.9 percent.
