Acting High Representative meets Director of IDDEEA BiH

As part of a series of meetings he held with representatives of the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina during his visit to Banja Luka, Acting High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina Louis J. Crishock visited the Agency for Identification Documents, Records and Data Exchange of Bosnia and Herzegovina (IDDEEABiH), where he met with the Agency’s director, Almir Badnjević.

The key activities of IDDEEA were discussed at the meeting, with a special focus on the digital transformation of public administration, the improvement of electronic services for citizens and institutions, and projects that contribute to the European integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Special attention was paid to the preparations for the upcoming election process, the application of modern election technologies, and the technical and operational readiness of the IDDEEA to fulfill all obligations prescribed by law.

The interlocutors also discussed current legal issues related to the proceedings before the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which refer to the decisions of the Agency for the Protection of Personal Data of Bosnia and Herzegovina, including the temporary measure of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina. On that occasion, the importance of respecting court decisions, the rule of law and legal certainty as the basis for the smooth operation of institutions and the continuation of the digital transformation process was emphasized.

Crishock expressed his full support for the work of IDDEEA and the activities carried out by the Agency to strengthen the digital capacities of Bosnia and Herzegovina, improve the security of identification systems and develop reliable electronic services, stressing the importance of continued cooperation between the Office of the High Representative (OHR) and IDDEEA on projects of strategic importance.

During the conversation, he specifically referred to the address of the director of IDDEEA, at the session of the Steering Committee of the Peace Implementation Council (PIC), assessing that he provided the international community with a comprehensive overview of challenges and opportunities in the field of digital transformation and strengthening of institutional capacities of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Badnjević thanked the Acting High Representative for the visit and the expressed support for the work of the Agency, stressing that IDDEEA will continue to professionally and responsibly develop systems of strategic importance in accordance with the laws of BiH.

At the end of the meeting, a joint commitment to continue cooperation on projects that contribute to the strengthening of institutions, digital transformation and the development of secure and interoperable electronic services was confirmed, with a joint assessment that strong institutions based on the rule of law are the basis of stability, trust of citizens and the European path of BiH, IDDEEA announced.
