On Capitol Hill, at the US Congress, on March 24, the traditional Seder (a festive evening for Passover) will be held, which begins the most important Jewish holiday of Passover. On that occasion, the Sarajevo Haggadah will be presented.
The Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the US, Svena Alkalaj, said that this will be the largest, most important promotion and presentation of the Sarajevo Haggadah on US soil, and therefore the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In addition to BiH officials, it will bring together the top American politicians.
“First of all, I must emphasize that it is extremely important to me that the Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Denis Bećirović, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH, Elmedin Konaković, will also attend the event. In this way, we are making it known that we understand, support, and actively participate in events that are important for BiH, especially in light of developments on the domestic and international political scene. There is no doubt that high-ranking BiH officials will make the best use of this gathering in that regard.
As for the other guests, it is important that about 20 members of the US House of Representatives will be present, who are friends of Bosnia and Herzegovina and who can and want to help Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“In total, over 200 guests and participants will be present at this event on Capitol Hill. Finally, let me just say that in the nine months of preparation and organization of this event, in addition to key Jewish organizations, many Bosnians and Herzegovinians, both from the USA and Bosnia and Herzegovina, took part and made a great contribution. Thank you to all of them. I hope for great success, we wish us luck,” said Alkalaj.
He added that the Sarajevo Haggadah is the most valuable movable thing that exists in BiH.
“Among the Haggadahs in the world, the Sarajevo Haggadah is at the top, the most famous, most beautiful, most valuable Jewish book in the world. Its value is estimated at around 700 million USD! “700,000,000 US dollars is not a mistake,” Alkalaj pointed out in an interview for Slobodna Bosna.
