On the third anniversary of the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Head of the EU Delegation/EU Special Representative Luigi Soreca and the chargé d’affaires of Ukraine in Bosnia and Herzegovina Yaroslav Simonov visited the exhibition ‘The Lost Childhood’, which is currently on display at Europe House in Sarajevo.
‘The Lost Childhood’ exhibition is dedicated to children that have lost their lives during Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, written by their families. They are children of different ages who will never grow up, from the unborn to almost adults, from different parts of Ukraine.
“On this sombre third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, we remember all those whose lives have been taken early by this war, in particular the children. These are children with hopes and dreams that will never be realised and whose families will always be heartbroken by their loss. The European Union will continue to be true to the values that it was founded on, especially peace, stability, and respect for territorial integrity and international law in Ukraine, Bosnia and Herzegovina and across our continent,” said Ambassador Soreca.
“We are extremely grateful to our European friends for the support we feel in our fight against the aggressor. Ukraine has been and remains committed to democratic principles and European ideals and is ready to defend the common future of Europe by all possible means. Thank you to Ambassador Soreca for the support and organization of the exhibition,” said chargé d’affaires of Ukraine in BiH Simonov.
The exhibition in Europe House was organised in conjunction with Ukraine’s Memorial Platform, an initiative launched in March 2022 to humanise the statistics of war. It tells the individual stories of people who have been killed during the war, honouring their memories and lives, and underlining the devastating human cost of war. The Platform is a project by the Ukrainian local media development agency ABO NGO, working together with national and regional media outlets, government agencies, human rights organisations, and other public institutions.
The exhibition ‘The Lost Childhood’ is open for the public from Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:00 at Europe House, Maršala Tita 62 in Sarajevo until 7 March, 2025.
