At the gala event at the hotel Georgian House in Tbilisi, the award for the best athlete of the Balkans was presented to Amel Tuka by the president of the European Athletics Federations Svein Arne Hansen. This award deservedly belongs to Amel, since this year he won the title of the indoor champion of the Balkans at 20th games in Istanbul with the time of 1:48,86, and then won the bronze medal at the World Championships in Beijing with the time of 1:45,84.
Tuka said that this recognition represents to him a great motivation for work.
“It is truly my great honor to be selected the best athlete in the Balkans, and this award is one of the most important in my career. However, as every other award so far, this is just a bigger motive for work in order to be as good as possible in the coming period and represent my county, Bosnia and Herzegovina, at future competitions the best I can,” Tuka said.
Also, with the time of 1:42,51 Tuka set the best time this year at 800 meters in the world, which is also the new Balkan record. The previous record was set and held by the Croat Lućijano Sušanj.
