The two most likely Bosniak candidates entered the race for the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH): SDA President Bakir Izetbegovic and SDP candidate Denis Becirovic with the support of ten other parties.
SDA candidate Sefik Dzaferovic was elected as a Bosniak member of the Presidency of BiH, receiving 212.851 votes. Denis Becirovic as the SDP candidate received 194.688 votes, Fahrudin Radoncic, the leader of the SBB, 75.210 votes, Mirsad Hadzikadic 58.555 votes, Senad Sepic 29.922 votes, and Amer Jerlagic 9.665 votes.
Although Bakir Izetbegovic was not a candidate in the 2018 elections due to the legal limit of a maximum of two consecutive mandates, the results of Sefik Dzaferovic indicate which municipalities are SDA strongholds and where good results can be expected. The SDA is probably hoping that at the basic level, Izetbegovic will repeat the votes won by Dzaferovic, and then, based on the fact that he is the president of the party and his family name, he will withdraw an additional number of votes.
Becirovic can hope to improve his results in the elections thanks to the support of parties that either had their own candidates in 2018 or supported some others and now have given their support to his candidacy.
Zenica case
Of the cities that are the headquarter of the canton, Sefik Dzaferovic achieved an excellent result in Zenica, where he received 12.566 votes or 24.82 percent, and Zeljko Komsic received 12.283 or 24.26 percent of the votes, while Denis Becirovic was fourth in Zenica in the number of votes and won only 13.37 percent or 6.768. Zenica is still interesting for the reason that Senad Sepic got about a third of all his votes, even 9.305 or 18.38 percent in Zenica.
SDA strongholds
The big difference in the number of votes was achieved by Dzaferovic in the center of the Central Bosnia Canton (CBC), Travnik, where he received 32.54 percent or 7.795 votes, and Becirovic 3.339 or 13.94 percent of the votes. Covic received 4.516 votes in Travnik, and Komsic 3.933.
Bosanska Krajina
In Una-Sana Canton (USC), the votes for the Bosniak member of the presidency were fairly evenly distributed between Dzaferovic and Becirovic. In Bihac, Becirovic won 4.894 votes and Dzaferovic 4.614. Zeljko Komsic received the most votes in Bihac, 6.075 votes. In the largest city of the USC, Cazin, Becirovic achieved a better result than Dzaferovic, receiving 6.805 votes, and Dzaferovic 5.879.
Tuzla region
The stronghold of Denis Becirovic in the 2018 elections was, unsurprisingly, Tuzla. In Tuzla, Becirovic received 15.859 votes or 32.23 percent, while Dzaferovic had about 10.000 votes less than Becirovic, receiving 5,217 or 10.60 percent of the votes. In Tuzla, Komsic had 13.576 votes or 27.59 percent.
Two stories in CS
In 4 municipalities of Sarajevo, Becirovic received more votes than Dzaferovic. Thus, in Centar Becirovic had 5.757 votes and Dzaferovic 4.330 votes, in Novi Grad Becirovic received 11.602 votes, and Dzaferovic 11,052. Compared to Dzaferovic, Becirovic also had more votes in Stari Grad, where he received 3.832, and Dzaferovic 3.370. The citizens of Novo Sarajevo also had more confidence in Becirovic when electing a Bosniak member of the Presidency and gave him 6.309 votes, and 4.665 votes for Dzaferovic.
The diametrically opposite situation was in other municipalities in CS. Dzaferovic had more votes than Becirovic in Ilijas, Ilidza, Vogosca, Hadzici and Trnovo, Klix.ba writes.
