After nearly two years, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have released their latest project on Netflix – a series called “Polo”, aimed at increasing awareness and growing the fan base of the sport.
Polo, a five-episode series, follows some of the most prominent players competing in the prestigious United States (U.S.) Open Polo Championship. The series not only explores the sport itself but also delves into how players balance their careers and family relationships, adding an emotional dimension to the content.
However, a royal analyst who also follows polo watched the series and described it as dull. According to him, polo is a very exclusive sport, often reserved for the extremely wealthy. He argues that the average person cannot afford even the basics required for the game, such as polo mallets, horses, or trailers for their transport.
“I don’t think it will attract many new players,” said royal expert Phil Dampier, emphasizing that the high costs and elitist nature of the sport are major factors limiting its popularity.
Additionally, Dampier expressed doubts about the success of the series, noting that Prince Harry and Meghan have very limited involvement in the content. Although they appear in the final episode, their participation is minimal. According to the expert, this isn’t enough to justify the significant amount they were reportedly paid for the project – between 80 and 100 million dollars.
“I don’t think Netflix will get much value for its money,” Dampier added.
The series Polo has also received an average rating of two out of five stars from several production houses, which described the project as “boring” and “tedious.”
It’s worth noting that Meghan and Prince Harry have previously released three titles under their Netflix deal: Live to Lead, Heart of Invictus, and the documentary series Harry & Meghan, which showcased their love story and departure from the royal family.
