“Six years ago, the government allocated funds for the historical excavation of this locality, while these past few days the first works under the supervision of experts began, who are properly leading this excavation. We knew that some building existed here, a monastery or a church, and this is a very important moment that we have objectified and in a scientific and professional manner showed this finding to the public’’, said the Mayor of Brčko District Anto Domić.
Following these excavations, there will be enough evidence to put this location under the cultural-historical heritage of BiH, and then it would become easier to plan and develop these activities in terms of representation of these sites, artifacts and valuable items that will be displayed in museums.
The work that has begun on this site is largely on a voluntary basis by citizens of Gornja Skakava, while archeologists from Sarajevo and Osijek Ana Marić and Zvonko Bojičić are engaged in the excavations.
According to these experts, the excavation should take at least one month in order to determine all the facts.
The initial funds for the excavation is in the amount of around 125.00 KM and provided by the government of Brčko District, according to the website of the government of Brčko District.
