Three goalkeepers who, when combined, had incredible 407 matches without received goals and 228 performances for the national teams of their countries during their careers, spoke about their life paths, ups and downs, as well as about all those little things that make goalkeepers different than other football players. Begović, Čech and James commented on their most impressive defenses in careers and answered to the audience’s question.
“It is my pleasure to be a part of this evening,” said Petr Čech who replaced Chelsea with the city rival, Arsenal, last season. “Asmir is doing a great job with his Foundation in England and BiH and I am honored to help.”
David James, who also established a foundation for help to the impoverished, said that he is proud of the period he spent sharing the locker room with the BiH number one.
“As of day one it was clear that Asmir is very talented and a hard working goalkeeper who enjoys football,” said James. “I am happy that his wish came true – to help those who need the help the most through his foundation, especially in his homeland.”
Asmir Begović thanked the sponsors, without whom the Foundation’s work would be impossible, and all visitors and donors.
“The Foundation was born three years ago with the idea to support projects of reconstruction and construction of sports infrastructure in BiH and England. In the meantime, we implemented several projects in both countries, especially for children with special needs, and I hope that we helped them at least a little bit to continue doing sports in the future. I am proud of all the people who are part of this, and I expressed my deepest gratitude to all the sponsors and donors without whom this would be impossible,” said Begović.
Visitors who participated in the charity auction collected around 14.000 GPB (15.600 EUR) and the rare collection of gloves signed by James, Čech and Begović reached the record price of 8.000 GPB.
