The plane carrying WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has landed in the Australian capital of Canberra, ending his 14-year legal battle, Reuters reported.
Assange previously pleaded guilty to violating the Espionage Act in a court on the US Pacific island of Saipan, according to an agreement with the US Department of Justice.
He reached a deal with US authorities to plead guilty in exchange for not facing further criminal charges. The court recognized the years he spent in a British prison and then released him.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said that most Australians will be satisfied with the court’s decision to release Assange.
