At least 150 people, including women and children, were abducted and one person was killed in a coordinated attack by gunmen on four villages in Nigeria’s northwestern Zamfara state, local residents said.
Residents said that armed persons on dozens of motorcycles invaded the villages of Mutunji, Kvanar-Duce, Sabon-Garin Mahuta and Unguvar Kavo.
Kidnapping for ransom has become rampant in northwestern Nigeria in recent years. Armed gangs attack villages, schools and travelers and demand ransom money.
