Officials in Hamas-run Gaza said on Monday that more than 60 people were killed overnight in “intense” Israeli bombardment.
Deadly violence in the Israeli-occupied West Bank and along Israel’s border with Lebanon, as well as fighting between US forces and Iran-backed Yemeni rebels in the Red Sea, have fueled fears of an escalation beyond the Gaza Strip.
The war, sparked by a Hamas attack on Israel, has created a humanitarian disaster for 2.4 million people in the besieged belt, the United Nations and aid groups warn, and has reduced much of the territory to rubble.
The Ministry of Health in Gaza, which has been ruled by Hamas since 2007, reported more than 60 dead and dozens wounded in “intense” strikes across Gaza.
The Hamas government’s media service said two hospitals, a girls’ school and dozens of homes were hit overnight.
Hospitals in Gaza have been hit repeatedly since the war broke out, and the World Health Organization (WHO) says most of them are no longer functional.
– Since the beginning of Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip, at least 24,100 Palestinians have been killed –
At least 24,100 Palestinians have been killed and 60,834 wounded in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip since October 7, the Ministry of Health in the blockaded Palestinian enclave announced this morning.
“The Israeli occupation forces committed 12 massacres against families in the Gaza Strip, resulting in 132 deaths and 252 injuries in the last 24 hours,” the statement said.
According to the United Nations (UN), 85 percent of the population of the Gaza Strip has been internally displaced due to Israeli attacks and acute shortages of food, clean water, and medicine, while 60 percent of the enclave’s infrastructure has been damaged or completely destroyed.
The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Ghabreyesus warned yesterday that the people of Gaza are living in hell and that there is no safe place in that region.
“100 days of incessant insecurity and fear cannot be described, and it continues. Everything must be done to end the violence to prevent more unnecessary deaths and injuries. Free the captives. Ceasefire, now,” he said on the X social network, AA writes.
