Award for Roma Integration in the Western Balkans

The Award for Roma Integration aims at raising visibility of the existing challenges faced by Roma in the enlargement countries, of the invaluable contributions NGOs make to assist Roma communities and of the work of the European Union does in support of Roma inclusion, as one of its priority areas on fundamental rights.

The Award for Roma Integration in the Western Balkans and Turkey 2014 will be given to projects in the enlargement jurisdictions that have made an innovative contribution to the full social integration of Roma. The winning projects will have to demonstrate an original approach, offering holistic solutions for overcoming the existing social gaps between the majority communities and the Roma population in a sustained manner.

The winning applicants will receive a monetary award for which the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Enlargement is allocating a total of €98,000 for all prizes. 7 prizes will be given out, one in each of the enlargement jurisdictions. The prizes will be handed over by the Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy in an award ceremony in October 2014 in Brussels.
