The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) made a decision two days ago in the case of Esad Avdic and others, according to which it accepted the proposal of the defense of the suspect Nenad Nesic. The proposal was previously supported in agreement by the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH.
Based on the Court’s decision, Nesic was granted bail in the amount of 1.370.000 BAM, by which the previous restrictive measures were lifted. According to the announcement of the Court of BiH, the travel ban and the obligation to report periodically to state authorities were lifted. However, control of other restrictive measures, such as the ban on meeting with certain persons, will continue in accordance with the latest ruling of the Court.
The Court specifically warned Nesic that if he fails to respond to a summons from the Court or the Prosecutor’s Office, or if a legal basis for detention arises, the bail will be revoked, and detention will be reimposed. This measure to ensure presence may last until the final conclusion of the criminal proceedings or until a different decision of the Court.
It should be mentioned that Nesic was previously released from detention on May 16th of this year, when the Court of BiH decided to replace his detention with restrictive measures. He was arrested at the end of December 2024 as part of the “Tunnel 2” operation, together with several people, among them Mirko Pandurevic, general director of “Romanijaputevi,” Srdjan Mijatovic, executive director for economic and financial affairs at “Roads of the Republika Srpska,” and Mladen Cajic, an employee of the same company.
The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH charges the suspects with serious criminal offenses, including conspiracy to commit criminal acts, money laundering, abuse of official position, and receiving bribes. The investigation also covers illegal dealings with the company Legend d.o.o., which, according to the accusations, supplied enterprises with abrasive materials at significantly higher prices than market rates.
At the time of his arrest, Nesic was the Minister of Security of BiH, but he resigned on January 23rd of this year.
