On Sunday evening, Banja Luka joined the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the beginning of the NATO bombing of the then Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
The lights on the buildings of the Banski dvor and the City Administration were turned off, with which Banjaluka showed its respect for the victims of the bombing.
At 7:55 p.m., the City of Banja Luka’s alarm and notification system sounded, exactly at the time when the bombing began on this day in 1999.
The then Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was bombed after the failed negotiations in Rambouillet and Paris on the future status of Kosovo, for which Serbia was accused. The airstrikes, which lasted for 78 days, killed between 1,200 and 2,500 people and caused great material damage.
In Belgrade, in memory of the victims, flowers were laid on the Monument to the Children of the Victims. Remembrance Day was organized tonight in Prokuplje, and in addition to the Serbian state leadership, numerous officials of the Republika Srpska were also present.
