Ahmed Husagic was born in Sarajevo, and he completed the Political Sciences studies at the University of Vienna. Within the integration bureau of the Social Democratic Party of Austria, he is leading a part of the company that aims at mobilizing people with migration background.
“Every third citizen of the City of Vienna is of foreign origin, and the largest migrant group is consisted of the people from the former Yugoslavia. They have the possibility to affect the political currents. Therefore, it is very important that they participate in the elections and express their will”, Husagic said.
More than 300.000 people originating from the former Yugoslavian countries live in Vienna; 50 percent of them have Austrian citizenship and thereby they have obtained the right to participate in the elections. Citizens of Croatia can vote as the citizens of the EU, but only for local government (bezirk).
“The Social Democratic Party is a party that supports multiculturalism and nurturing of culture and tradition of all ethnic groups. It is important to us that the City of Vienna remains an environment where the people feel free and happy with all their differences”, Ahmed Husagic said.
