Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) Dr. Denis Becirovic spoke with the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs of the United Kingdom (UK), David Lammy. The focus of the telephone conversation was the current situation in BiH and the region, as well as bilateral relations between the two friendly countries.
This is the full statement:
“Dr. Becirovic emphasized that BiH is facing the greatest security threat since the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement. He said that the leadership of the BiH entity Republika Srpska (RS), headed by Milorad Dodik, is directly threatening the Dayton Peace Agreement, the constitutional order of the state of BiH, peace, and security. In that context, he stated that last week the police of the BiH entity RS threatened the state institutions of BiH with weapons. Such conduct represents an attack on the constitutional order of BiH and has elements of armed rebellion. He emphasized that these are organized and systematic attempts to undermine the state of BiH. The leadership of the BiH entity RS openly denies the decisions of the Constitutional Court of BiH, threatens secession, and calls for the expulsion of international representatives, which is a direct blow to peace, stability, and international order, stated Dr. Becirovic.
Secretary of State Lammy emphasized that the UK provides full support to the independent judicial institutions of BiH and that their decisions must be fully respected. He condemned the undermining of the Dayton Peace Agreement and the constitutional order of BiH by the leadership of the BiH entity RS. He expressed the UK’s strong support for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of BiH, as well as for the preservation of peace and security in BiH and the region. He also said that the UK, as a witness to the Dayton Peace Agreement, will not allow 30 years of peacebuilding and stability in the region to be jeopardized. In that context, Secretary Lammy pointed out the importance of the fact that the UK will host the next Berlin Process summit, which will be held in October in London.
Concrete activities were also agreed upon for the member of the Presidency of BiH, Dr. Denis Becirovic, during his upcoming visit to the UK. It is planned that Becirovic will meet with the highest officials of the UK in London. At the meetings, a number of options will be considered with the aim of ensuring respect for the constitutional order of BiH and the Dayton Peace Agreement.
Member of the Presidency of BiH Dr. Denis Becirovic thanked for the continuous support of the UK to the European and Euro-Atlantic path of BiH, as well as to the strengthening of a multiethnic and democratic BiH.”
