Becirovic in Munich: Attacks on BiH are a Test of the Determination of Europe and the West

The member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Bećirović, spoke at a gathering dedicated to European and transatlantic security, held on the eve of the official opening of the Munich Security Conference.

The event brought together more than 200 officials from around the world and is part of the official conference program. In the opening part of the meeting, in addition to Bećirović, the chairman of the Munich Security Conference, Ambassador Wolfgang Ischinger, also spoke.

In his address, Bećirović pointed out that Europe is facing serious security challenges, stressing that credible deterrence, strengthening of defense capacities, political cohesion and decisive opposition to hybrid threats are the key to the continent’s stability.

He particularly warned against, as he stated, repeated attempts to destabilize Bosnia and Herzegovina and attacks on the Dayton Peace Agreement, which stopped the war. He pointed out that such activities come “from the separatist regime in the Republika Srpska entity, with dominant support from Moscow.”

According to him, the determination of Europe and the West to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina represents a common test and a concrete contribution to credible deterrence in Europe.

Speaking about the country’s security perspective, Bećirović emphasized the importance of completing the process of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s accession to the NATO alliance, as well as strengthening the southeastern wing of the Alliance.

He also said that a daily and uncompromising struggle for democracy, the rule of law and individual freedom is necessary.
