Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH)Denis Becirovic met in Washington with Congressman Michael Turner (Republican Party), Deputy Chair of the Defense and Security Committee of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and Co-Chair of the Congressional Caucus on BiH in the United States (U.S.) House of Representatives, who on that occasion reiterated that the U.S. remains a strong partner and ally of BiH.
Becirovic informed Congressman Turner that BiH, 30 years after the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement, is facing the most serious security crisis, caused, as he stated, by the pro-Russian and separatist leadership of the BiH entity Republika Srpska (RS).
He emphasized that the attempt to overthrow the constitutional order of the state of BiH is still ongoing, and that the institutions of the state of BiH must act in coordination with the international community with the aim of preserving the legal order of the state and the hard-won peace, it was stated by the Cabinet of the member of the BiH Presidency Denis Becirovic.
Becirovic emphasized that the proposal of the president of the BiH entity RS to negotiate directly with the Federation of BiH (FBiH)entity is “a mere deception.”
“Entities exist only within the state of BiH, and only state bodies of BiH will decide on state matters,” Becirovic said.
The conversation particularly emphasized BiH‘s strategic commitment to NATO membership.
Becirovic stressed that Euro-Atlantic integration represents the best framework for the long-term security and stability of BiH and the entire Western Balkans region.
Congressman Turner reiterated that the U.S. remains a strong partner and ally of BiH, and he emphasized the importance of joint action in preserving peace, the rule of law, and the European and Euro-Atlantic perspective of BiH, the statement said.
