Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Bećirović met with Germany’s Minister of State for Europe at the Federal Foreign Office, Gunther Krichbaum.
Bećirović stressed the importance of Germany’s strong and continued support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as for the preservation of peace through Germany’s significant engagement in the EUFOR Althea mission.
Destructive Activities Further Intensified
The member of the Presidency warned of ongoing and coordinated actions by the leadership of the Republika Srpska entity that undermine the Dayton Peace Agreement. He said these actions constitute a direct attack on the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina and pose a serious threat to peace and security.
Bećirović emphasized that secessionist policies, attempts to weaken state institutions, and public statements marked by hate speech, racism and discrimination are aimed at destabilizing the country and, consequently, the wider region, with potentially far-reaching consequences for Europe as a whole. He said Dodik’s hate speech evokes the darkest periods of European history and should not be underestimated.
Bećirović added that Dodik and his associates have further intensified their destructive activities in recent months. He said these actions go beyond earlier controversial moves, including the expulsion of Krichbaum’s predecessor, Anna Lührmann, from Republika Srpska, and the incident involving the sending of a Nazi-style helmet to the High Representative.
He stressed that such conduct constitutes a serious violation of the Dayton Peace Agreement and undermines democratic values, representing a security risk with potentially far-reaching consequences. He called for a principled and coordinated response from the international community.
Germany a Strong Partner in Preserving Peace and Stability
Bećirović thanked Germany for its support through NATO’s defence capacity-building package for Bosnia and Herzegovina. He also underlined the importance of the Berlin Process, launched by Germany to strengthen regional cooperation and accelerate the region’s integration into the European Union.
Minister Krichbaum reiterated that Germany remains a strong partner of Bosnia and Herzegovina in safeguarding peace and stability and will continue to support the strengthening of the country’s security capacities and its European perspective.
