Carriers, members of the Logistics Consortium of Bosnia and Herzegovina, today suspended protests at border crossings in BiH leading to the European Union (EU), after EU representatives gave written guarantees to carriers from Serbia, BiH, Montenegro and North Macedonia that drivers from these countries will not be detained and deported from EU countries in the coming period.
As noted by the BiH Logistics Consortium, this is a temporary measure that solves the problem that caused the protests in the mentioned countries of the region to begin on Monday, January 26, which is the application of the rules on drivers staying in EU countries for a maximum of 90 days in six months.
The Consortium points out that carriers from BiH found understanding, support and solutions to their problems sooner in the EU institutions than in the representatives of the BiH authorities.
They welcomed the European Commission’s decision to, apart from a temporary measure, include the problems of transporters in the asylum and migration management strategy, which was presented yesterday.
“Despite continuous calls, most representatives of domestic institutions did nothing to solve our problems. Unlike the political representatives, during the five days of the protest, we encountered the understanding of members of the Border Police, as well as local police agencies, to whom we are especially grateful,” it was stated in the statement of the Logistics Consortium of BiH.
The protests that were held in four countries of the region showed the solidarity, unity and strength of carriers from the region, which resulted in EU guarantees, they emphasize.
Therefore, they thanked all the carriers, members of the Logistics Consortium of BiH, who persisted in their demands.
As it was also stated in the announcement, given that there are still a number of problems that transporters are facing, they once again invited the representatives of the authorities to a dialogue so that they would not be forced to organize new protests.
They expressed special gratitude to the citizens, who, as they point out, supported them during the protest and who showed understanding for their demands and way of fighting.
They also expressed their gratitude to all the media that followed the activities of BiH carriers and informed the public about their requests.
