B&H Has Officially Become a Part of MeteoAlarm

METEOALARMB&H has officially become a part of the family of MeteoAlarm, which has 34 European countries of the Meteorological Institute. The grey spot on the EUMETNET map, which represents B&H, has a picture and data on the country starting today.

The FB&H Hydrometeorological Institute (FHMC) and the RS Hydrometeorological Institute (RHMZ) began yesterday to issue operational forecasts of severe weather events through EMMA EUMETNET project MeteoAlarm. This project emerged as a result of cooperation between both institutes in B&H.

‘’This project is one of the brightest points of cooperation of the two institutes and the organization. MeteoAlarm is an extremely important organization in which countries exchange information and forecasts. The information is life-saving and is new, and MeteoAlarm is a chance for institutions in B&H to show how active they are and their progress’’, said Samir Agić, Assistant to the Minister of Security of B&H.

‘’We have been working on this project from December 2012. We had excellent cooperation with RHMZ and we successfully implemented all international obligations. MeteoAlarm issues early warnings of floods, fires and other natural disasters, and in this way the lives of citizens and their property can be saved. Climate change is causing more extreme weather conditions and B&H subject to this. So far, we have been working with modest equipment and this will continue to help us in protecting people’’, said the Director of FHMZ Almir podložna.
