B&H Press Council Successfully Mediated Between Readers and Media

Ljiljana Zirovac, Executive Director of the Press Council for B&H thinks that this self-regulatory body for print and online media successfully accomplished its mission in 2013 of mediation between readers and print and online media.

In 2013, the B&H Press Council received 205 complaints of citizens on the reporting of press and online media, which is a record number since the founding of the Council. By comparison, in 2012 there were 199 complaints, and 129 a year earlier.

Within the Council of Europe Project ‘promotion of Professionalism and Tolerance in media in B&H’, there were realized seminars for 100 judges, prosecutors and representatives of police agencies. A roundtable was organized for 50 editors and journalists of online media, on the topic ‘self-regulation, regulation and practices in the fight against hate speech’.

In 2013, the regular, weekly production of radio shows ‘Your Voice in Media-ZOOM’, 15 minute shows on media and citizens, media ethics and current media topics started. The show is broadcast on 14 radio stations in B&H, on the Internet and Facebook site of the B&H Press Council.

Two public campaigns’ Citizens and Journalists Together in the Fight for the Truth’ were realized.
