US President Joe Biden will meet with his national security team today to receive an update on the situation in Syria, a White House spokesman said.
“The president will meet with his national security team this morning to receive an update on the situation in Syria,” National Security Council spokesman Sean Savett said.
The meeting comes after rebels announced they had ousted Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and taken control of Damascus.
Syrian rebels announced the “liberation” of Damascus and the fall of the Assad regime on state television and released prisoners.
Syrian Prime Minister Mohammed al-Jalali said he was ready to “cooperate” with any leadership chosen by the people and for any handover process.
