United States President Joe Biden said at least three American soldiers were killed and many wounded in a drone attack in Jordan, which he attributed to militant groups backed by Iran.
They were the first American casualties in months of attacks by pro-Iranian groups on US forces across the Middle East amid Israel’s attacks on Gaza.
Biden said that the United States will be responsible in any way the United States chooses.
The attack took place in the north-east of Jordan, near the border with Syria.
There was no immediate reaction from Jordan, a kingdom that borders Iraq, Israel, the Palestinian territories of the West Bank, Saudi Arabia and Syria.
American troops have long used Jordan as a base where about 3,000 American soldiers are stationed.
Since the start of Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip, US forces in Iraq and Syria have faced attacks by pro-Iranian groups, AA writes.
