The Agreement between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the European Union on operational activities carried out by the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (FRONTEX) in BiH was initialled today in Sarajevo.
Before the initialling of the agreement, the Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina Nenad Nešić said that this is another big step towards the EU made by the Ministry of Security.
According to him, the initialling of this agreement is proof that Bosnia and Herzegovina is integrated into the European system of collective security.
“The initialling is not a technical act but a symbol of commitment to strengthening security,” said Nešić.
The Head of the Bosnia and Herzegovina team for negotiations with FRONTEX, Mirko Kuprešaković, said that the BiH delegation had a difficult job in harmonising the text of the agreement with the activities that Frontex will carry out in BiH.
He recalled that activities on the agreement started in March this year, and expressed hope that after the initialling, the official signing of the text of the agreement would take place.
The Agreement was initialed by the Head of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Team for Negotiations with FRONTEX and Director of the BiH Border Police Mirko Kuprešaković and the Director for Schengen, Borders and Visas at the Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs of the European Commission Henrik Nilsen.
The Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina previously announced that the completion of the negotiations and the initialing of the Agreement represent an important step forward on Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European path, but also in the context of strengthening the operational partnership between FRONTEX and the BiH Border Police, Srna news agency writes.
